NIH/NIA Appropriations Legislation:
H.R. 933 (Public Law 113-6), the Department of Defense, Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, and Full-Year Continuing Appropriations Act, 2013 provides funding authority for the last six months of FY 2013, through September 30, 2013, to allow all government agencies and programs, including NIH, to continue operating during that period, and it generally continues the authorities and conditions on such funding that were included in individual FY 2012 appropriations laws. Congressional Visits and Hearings:
On August 5, Congressional staff members from the Arizona delegation (Sarah Towles, Lauren Alfred, Bobby Cornett, Garrett Hawkins, Kelsey Mishkin, Melissa Muñoz, Lliam Morrison, Richard Patrick, Katherina Dimenstein, Beau Brunson, and Nicky Borselli) visited the NIH which included a tour of the NIA intramural Laboratory of Neurogenetics and discussion lead by Dr. Andrew Singleton.
On August 28, at the invitation of United States Representative Kathy Castor (FL-D), Dr. Hodes visited the Byrd Institute and Research Center at the University of Southern Florida at Tampa. Representative Castor and Dr. Hodes toured and discussed Alzheimer’s disease research with the Institute staff.
